  1. Age 12

    Port Aransas

Big Avery starts stocking groceries and bussing tables at the Island Food Store, learning from Roy Turnbuex, Pete Arzola Sr. (Big Pete) and Wilson White. He picks up the skills of baker, butcher and all-round cook.

  2. With Big Pete

    Island Cafe & Smokehouse

After a spell at Moss Hall, Avery joins Big Pete to create the Island Cafe and Smokehouse, home of island favourites like Fish-N-Chips and All U Can Eat Flounder.

  3. 1986

    A hard turn

Big Pete dies of a heart attack in 1986. A year later, Avery leaves the restaurant he helped build.

  4. 15+ years

    Dockside Bar & Grill

Cooking for Bob and Carol Owens, Avery fills Dockside day and night. The “two, two, two” (2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 bacon for $2) starts here, along with his Western, Crab and Shrimp Omelets.

  5. Jan 2011

    Avery's Kitchen opens

Avery and his family open their own place in Port Aransas: fat fluffy omelets, homemade shredded hash browns, fish & chips and hand-breaded shrimp.

  6. Aug 2017

    Hurricane Harvey

Harvey destroys Avery's Kitchen, along with most businesses in Port Aransas.

  7. Now

    New Braunfels

Avery's Kitchen, LLC opens in New Braunfels to pick up right where they left off.
